Executive Director and General Counsel
On Wed., Jan. 13, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced during the third day of his 2021 State of the State addresses that New York state is planning a massive push toward renewable energy to create 50,000 jobs, spur $29 billion in private investment, and power six million homes. To start, a $26 billion public-private partnership will build nearly 100 renewable-energy projects, of which 68 have already started. Cuomo outlined some of the projects, including two massive offshore-wind projects off Long Island that will provide about 2,500 megawatts. The state will also open an offshore wind turbine hub at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal that will create 1,200 jobs, Cuomo said.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) maintains an Offshore Wind Supply Chain Database that showcases local, regional, and global companies with capabilities to serve the offshore wind industry. With the amount of work coming up in the offshore-wind industry, I would encourage each of you to consider registering on NYSERDA’s Supply Chain Database. Here is the link to register.
